Angående Linne

Jeg kom til å tenke på boken kalt Det lykkelige Arabia som handler om en vitenskapsekspedisjon til Arabia som da enda ikke var skikkelig kartlagt. Ekspedisjonen hadde også ett spesialoppdrag på vegne av Linne men jeg kan ikke riktig huske hvordan det gikk. Eneste overlevende i fra ekspedisjonen var Carsten Niebhur. Om han sies det:

Niebuhr was an accurate and careful observer, had the instincts of the scholar, was animated by a high moral purpose, and was rigorously conscientious and anxiously truthful in recording the results of his observation. His works have long been classics on the geography, the people, the antiquities and the archaeology of much of the district of Arabia which he traversed.

En skikkelig spennende og innsiktsfull bok som gir en ett blikk inn i hvordan man tenkte for kun noen få hundre år siden.
